Recommendation: M83

Sorry that I haven't posted anything lately, will try to do better.

Today's recommendation is actually one of my favorite artists at the moment, M83. His music is described as Rock/Pop/Shogaze and it sounds amazing. His prior albums have been mostly instrumental but the latest album, "Saturday youth" released earlier this year has successfully implemented vocals to the mix. My favorite albums are Saturday youth and Digital Shades from last year and if you like what you hear - check them out! They are solid all the way through.

A couple of tracks:
M83 - Graveyard Girl (Saturday youth, 2008)

M83 - Kim & Jessie (Saturday youth, 2008)

M83 - Teen angst (Before the dawn heals us, 2005)

M83 - Dancing mountains (Digital shades, 2007)

Bonus track: M83 - Graveyard Girl (Yuksek remix)

Very nice club mix of my favorite track!

New minimal tech mix

I've put together a mix with a couple of my favourite minimal tech tunes, some of them are old (less than 1 year though) and some are new. Sorry about some of the transitions between the songs, I'm not that good at mixing and I put it together in an hour. At least I hope it sounds decent!

Enjoy!

Playlist:
Phil Keiran - The fear (Original mix)
Yin Elek - Warrior (Original mix)
Plastikman - Spastik (Dubfire rework)
Lucio Aquilina - Magic M (Original mix)
Marcus Schossow - Chase my rabbit
Adam Beyer - China girl
Sydney Blu - Give it up for me (Original mix)
Sebo K - Far out (Original mix)
Sebastien Leger - Jaguar
Deadmau5 - Faxing Berlin (Original mix)

ps. please avoid downloading this one if you're not into minimal/tech. I've got limited bandwidth in my web account

Today's artist: Estelle

Estelle became famous with the song 1980 in the year 2004 but since then it has been rather quiet around her. This month, she's releasing her 2nd full-length cd with a couple of great tracks.

The music is soft well-produced RnB which reminds me of Lauryn Hill, especially the track No substitute love. Estelle has managed to bring on a whole bunch of guest appearances from hip hop artists like Kanye West and Kardinal Offshall. My guess is that you will hear Estelle a lot on the radio this spring and summer.

Estelle feat. Kanye West - American Boy (Soulseekerz club mix)

Estelle - No substitute love

Estelle feat. Kanye West - Splice of life (hot toddy dub)

Today's artist: Four tet

Hi guys,

I've been thinking about creating this blog for some time now.

With music in the center I will present known and unknown artist that I listen to, give a sample of what they sound like and, whenever I find it suiting, give a couple of more listening recommendations. My thought is that the artist selection on the blog should be qualitative rather than quantitative and compensate the narrow selection within genres by covering a lot of them. To make it a bit more personal I will sometimes add an anecdote about how I came in contact with the songs or why I think it's good music.

I will start off by recommending the artist Four tet who creates soft experimental electronic music that is very different from, hm, everything else made.

Four tet - Ribbons

Bonobo - Pick up (Four tet mix edit)

Further listening:
Unspoken (Rounds, 2003)
My angel rocks back and forth (Rounds, 2003)
As serious as your life (Rounds, 2003)
Matthew Dear - Deserter (Four tet remix)
Madvillain - Money folder (Four tet remix)
Nathan Fake - You are here (Four tet remix)

If you have other song recommendations with For tet or similiar artists or you just feel to leave a comment about my posts. Feel free! :-)
